Another tragic ending for the intense rains of Friday and Saturday, 17 and 18 November. Rescue crews recovered on Tuesday, 21 November 2023, the corpse of 27-year-old psychologist Rubi Smarlin Duarte, who had been missing after being dragged by the crashing waters of Yuna River on Sunday, 19 November 2023. Her pet dog had been recovered on the previous Monday. The corpse was found in the section of Los Platanitos, Arenoso in Duarte province near where the tragedy occurred.
She was traveling in a vehicle with her husband Felix Abreu and her sister-in-law Wanda Abreu on the way to Santo Domingo on the Samana toll road. Diario Libre reports her vehicle was dragged by the rising waters of the Yuna River in the central northeast. She was able to get out of the vehicle, but apparently drowned in the river waters.
Rescue crews first found Wanda Abreu and her brother Felix, who are in stable condition.
