On Thursday, 23 November 2023, the temperature dropped to -4°C in Valle Nuevo, above Constanza in central La Vega province. On Friday, 24 November, -1°C temperature was reported. Ground frost was everywhere.
Below zero temperatures occur regularly in the very high regions of the Dominican Republic, something otherwise rare in the Caribbean, mostly made up of flat terrain. But then again, there are no higher places in the Caribbean than the Cordillera Central.
In urban areas, last week Onamet reported 11 degrees C in Constanza and and 13 degrees in Jarabacoa, also in La Vega province. Onamet reported 11 degrees C also in Rancho Arriba, San Jose de Ocoa province.
