
It seems to be corruption as usual. Government departments are still allowed to spend billions at their discretion.
Audits carried out by the Controller General Office report that state controls are very lax at the State Sugar Council (CEA) that controls billions in assets despite being shut down when most sugar mills were privatized.
Investigative journalist Nuria Piera also aired on her Saturday, 25 November 2023 program that sections of the recent audit by the same Controller General Office to the Ministry of Sports. The audit again shows a blatant lack of accounting best practices and administrative controls, leading to wasteful spending, to say the least.
“It is hard to believe that public institutions have such deficient administrative and accounting systems,” she remarked.
