David Collado at Times Square to invite New Yorkers to switch coats for bathing suits

Tourism Minister David Collado was in New York City over the weekend to launch the “Change the Season” campaign officially to the general public. The New York area is the most important generator of tourists for the Dominican Republic. There are expectations the number of US visitors could reach four million as the country moves forward on its goal of breaking the 10 million tourists for the first time this 2023, Diario Libre reported when covering the activity in New York.

For the occasion, a promotional dome was installed in the Times Square area, highlighting the country’s main attractions, including its beaches, mountains, and sweets.

Attending the event were Dominican New York legislator Adriano Espaillat, Dominican-born Ydanis Rodriguez, who is the New York City transport commissioner, and David Llibre, the president of the National Hotel & Tourism Association (Asonahores).

The new campaign had been presented at the end of October 2023 to travel agents in New York. The campaign aims to capture the imagination of travelers, encouraging them to escape the winter cold by embarking on an adventure to the Dominican Republic. The Caribbean nation’s pristine beaches, warm hospitality, and vibrant culture offer the perfect escape from the harsh winter weather that many are accustomed to. “Change The Season” invites US travelers to escape reality and experience the Dominican Republic’s eternal summer.

According to a survey conducted by the Dominican tourism office in Manhattan, 54% of tourists originate from the United States, cementing the area’s status as the leading source of visitors, accounting for 50% of all inbound flights, including charter and commercial.
