President Abinader inaugurates the renovated Duarte con Paris intersection

President Luis Abinader and National District Mayor Carolina Mejia inaugurated the completed Duarte con Paris intersection, a previously chaotic northeastern capital city area. The Duarte con Paris is the connection between the Duarte Avenue major shopping area and the 27 de Febrero Avenue as it gets closer to Las Americas Expressway. The overpasses created an area that was invaded by vendors.

Urban renewal works to the tune of RD$309 million were carried out for the second and third final stages of the low-income shopping area. City art turned a chaotic area lacking of hygiene into a tourist attraction. More vendor stands were built, too.

The total project cost RD$511 million and was started during when David Collado was mayor of Santo Domingo (2016-2020).

Some 1.4 kilometers of sidewalks and ramps and cobblestones were reconstructed or built on Paris Street. Sanitary and storm drainage was improved. 246 stations were built for vendors, 60 of which were strategically located on Paseo de La Paris, in addition to 72 on the Paseo de la Lectura and 54 on the Paseo de la Musica, the three stages of the Duarte con Paris urban renewal project.

A two-level administrative building was built to house offices of the Mayor’s Urban Cleaning, Public Space, Municipal Police, and the Traffic and Transportation Security Agency (Digesett ), the National Police and the National Emergency and Security Assistance System 9-1-1.
