The Chamber of Deputies approves the 2024 budget

The Chamber of Deputies passed the 2024 budget that now moves to the Senate for approval. The bill has the rank of organic law and received the vote of more than two thirds for its passing in a second reading.

In a first reading the vote was 107 in favor and 57 negative, while in the second reading, 110 voted in favor.

Estimates of income and consolidated financial sources for 2024 are RD$1.62 trillion.

The controversy this year is that the budget includes funds that would be provided with the approval of the 30-year extension of the Aerodom contract, now under Vinci Airports. The concession covers the airports – Las Americas (Santo Domingo), Gregorio Luperon (Puerto Plata), La Isabela, Catey (Samana), Maria Montez (Barahona) and Arroyo Barril (Samana). The interest is mostly focused on Las Americas that is undergoing a boom in traffic.

The airport contract has passed in the Chamber of Deputies but has yet to pass in the Senate. The Senate sent the bill to a special committee for review.
