Crew rescued from cargo ship capsized from Puerto Plata to Turks & Caicos

Reports are that the 12 Dominicans that made up the crew of the Two Brothers cargo ship making the route to Turks & Caicos were rescued at sea after the boat capsized.

As reported, the first six of the crew were rescued by a passing Carnival Vista cruise ship and taken to Puerto Plata city. The second group was rescued in a joint effort of the US Coast Guard, the Dominican Navy, Civil Defense, National Police and 911 Emergency Service. The second group was taken to Manzanillo port and later transferred to Puerto Plata.

The Two Brothers boat is a Dominican flag 98-foot cargo ship, registration BC-T49-1083PP. Dominican Jesús Polanco and his brother own the boat.

As reported, the ship was loaded with merchandise including three vehicles – a small truck and two SUVs.
