TCI business advisor calls for Turks & Caicos to buy more from the Dominican Republic

The managing partner of the Turks & Caicos Island accounting and business advisory firm HLB TCI Ltd, Drexwell Seymour calls for businesses in Turks & Caicos to pursue buying directly from the source in Caribbean countries, including the Dominican Republic. He says major savings can be had cutting out the extra cost of buying from brokers in Florida. He highlights the produce would be fresher and thus better for the health of people. This would also be a way of supporting regional development and creating business opportunities, he stresses.

Seymour writes on 14 December 2023 in the Turks & Caicos Sun newspaper that Turks & Caicos Island has to start some time to develop the volume of imports so there can be better transport from the Caribbean to TCI.

Recently, a makeshift cargo boat was shipwrecked on 12 December 2023 and fortunately the crew was rescued, not so the cargo. The ship reportedly traveled between Puerto Plata and Turks & Caicos frequently overloaded with cargo. The cause of the capsizing of the ship have yet to be reported by the authorities.
