The Santo Domingo Metro Office (Opret) announced the Santo Domingo Metro transported record-breaking passenger 100 million for this 2023 on Monday, 11 December. The celebrated rider is Ermitania Encarnación Montero, a resident in Los Girasoles, Santo Domingo province.
Rafael Santos Perez, executive director of Opret, expects 108 million passengers to be transported by the end of 2023, a new annual record. “This moment is not just a number; it is a testimony to the efficiency and trust that the Dominican people have placed in this mass passenger transportation system. Every day, thousands of Dominicans choose this service to travel, trusting in our ability to offer safe, fast and efficient transportation,” highlighted the Opret executive.
The Opret is working on several expansion projects. These include the extension of Line 2C to Los Alcarrizos; the expansion of Line 1 and the beginning of the Line 1 to Punta de Villa Mella.
