The Center for Emergency Operations (COE) reported nine deaths during the Christmas Eve festivities, all due to traffic accidents. The majority of deaths were registered during the early hours of Monday, 25 December 2023 and were caused by people traveling on motorcycles.
COE director Juan Manuel Méndez said there were 58 traffic accidents, affecting 75 people. He said there were reports of 163 cases of alcohol poisoning and 45 people attended at hospitals for food poisoning.
