Prosecutors of Puerto Plata have requested that Tampa Bay Rays shortstop Wander Franco be allowed to post bail, but not to leave the country as his case for having sex with a minor girl is heard. The 63-page case regarding the inappropriate relationships of Franco is carried by the Puerto Plata Prosecutor’s Office, with the support of the National Department of Children, Adolescents and Families Unit and the Specialized Anti-Money Laundering and Terrorism Financing Unit of the Prosecutor’s Office. The case was filed on Wednesday, 3 January 2024. The file also establishes that the state prosecutors will request the domiciliary arrest of the mother of the minor girl. The mother is being charged with crimes of commercial sexual exploitation and money laundering.
In the request filed with the Permanent Attention Office of this jurisdiction, the Public Ministry has requested that a financial guarantee of five million pesos be imposed on Franco as a pre-custody measure, along with a prohibition of travel abroad and house arrest.
As for the minor’s mother, whose name is omitted to preserve the rights of the teenager, the prosecution has requested she be banned from leaving the country and house arrest as preventive measures. The prosecutors have presented evidence of extortion to Franco by the mother of the minor.
