Duarte Institute denounces mass entry of Haitians

The president of the Duartiano Institute, Wilson Gomez Ramirez called a press conference to denounce mass entry of undocumented Haitians and the activities program to celebrate Duarte Day. The Duartiano Institute is in charge of keeping life the story of Juan Pablo Duarte as the forefather of the Dominican Republic.

Wilson Gomez Ramirez said the Instituto Duartiano constantly receives reports of the passing of Haitians to Dominican Republic through border provinces. Gomez Ramirez spoke of the Independencia, Pedernales, Elias Piña and Dajabon provinces on the border with Haiti. He alerted to mass passing of Haitians in the El Aguacate, Los Arroyos, Puerto Escondido, Mal Paso, Jimaní, Aguas Negras, Los Arroyos, Las Mercedes communities.

He said this situation is of high concert to the security of the Dominican Republic.

He also denounced the civilians receive bribes on behalf of military that are assigned to control the border. He called for increased surveillance from the members of the Ministry of Defense and the Specialized Corps for Border Security (Cesfront).

Gomez said that it is vox populi that most of the Haitians that are deported return to the country within 48 hours. This reveals the weaknesses of the border control mechanisms, where not enough efforts have been made to the deal with the situation. He said there are including cases of Haitians that have been deported several times.
