Duartiano Institute announces events for 26 January 2024

The Duartiano Institute announced activities it has planned for the 211th anniversary of the birth of the father of the country, Juan Pablo Duarte y Díez. This year the anniversary falls on Friday, 26 January and will make for a long weekend.

The president of the organization, Wilson Gómez Ramírez said the celebrations will begin on Sunday, 14 January 2024 with the “Duartiana Parade for the Homeland,” starting at 4pm in Parque Independencia with participants touring the Colonial City. Horse riders from the Dominican Paso Horse Association (Adopaso), the Higüeyana Breed Horse Association and the Blood Cavalry of the Army of the Republic will participate in the parade.

On Tuesday, 16 January, starting at 9am, the Duartiana Olympics for Prisoners, in coordination with the General Directorate of Correctional and Penitentiary Centers, will be held at the headquarters of the Duartiano Institute, an opportunity for inmates to share their knowledge on the founding forefather.

The president of the Duartiano Institute stated that the activities will continue on Tuesday, 23 January, when a bust of the patrician will be unveiled in The Hague, Netherlands, an event coordinated with Dominican ambassador Juan Bautista Durán.

On Thursday, 25 January at 12:30pm the presentation of commemorative medals for the 60th anniversary of the Duartiano Institute and for the IV anniversary of “Radio Patria” is scheduled.

On Friday, 26 January, the actual birthday of Duarte, commemorative activities will begin at 8am with the raising of the national flag at the Duarte-Díez family house. At 8:30am a floral offering will be held in Duarte Park, in the Colonial City; and at 9am a mass will commemorate Duarte in the Santo Domingo Cathedral.

He specified that that same day, at 12 noon, a wreath of flowers will be placed at the Altar of the Homeland, with the rendition of the National and Duarte anthems.

The activities will continue on 26 January at 7:30pm with the lyrical music concert “I show you my Homeland,” by renowned classical singers in the Plaza Patriótica, in the interior esplanade of the Duarte-Díez family house, coordinated by the National Lyric Company, the General Directorate of Fine Arts, the Ministry of Culture, and Ondina Matos de Lendor.

He noted that on Sunday, 28 January, starting at 9am, the Duartiano Institute will participate in the traditional patriotic exhibition that, in support of the Duartiano date, will be held by the Antique and Classic Car Club of the Dominican Republic (CAACRD) , at Club Falcondo, in Bonao.

The following Sunday, 4 February, starting at 3pm, the “Caravan for the Homeland” will take place, with a colorful parade of antique and classic cars, which will travel through important streets and avenues of the National District, a parade coordinated with the aforementioned Antique and Classic Car Club of the Dominican Republic (CAACRD) and other entities.
