
Cardinal Nicolas de Jesus Lopez Rodriguez is stable and recovering from hip surgery. He is at the Diagnostic Center for Advanced Medicine and Telemedicine (Cedimat).
The team of doctors who operated on the Cardinal said this Tuesday, 9 January 2024 that the Cardinal is recovering after the surgery performed on him. The Cardinal had suffered a hip fracture.
Speaking for the team of doctors who operated on the Cardinal, Cedimat medical director Dr. Jorge Marte explained the operation ended at 11am. The Cardinal is resting in a normal hospital room.
López Rodríguez has been cardinal emeritus since 2016. He holds the title for life, yet he cannot vote in a conclave to elect the pope. Cardinal Lopez Rodriguez suffers from Alzheimer’s disease.
Until the passing of Cardinal Lopez Rodriguez, Pope Francis does not need to choose a new cardinal for the Dominican Republic.
