
As the legislative term comes to an end, the Modern Revolutionary Party-majority Senate authorized the issuing of more sovereign bonds, a US$100 million loan for a bill to fund Superate welfare programs to help youths to find jobs and the new structure of the government intelligence unit.
As reported in Diario Libre, the Senate passed the bill authorizing the issuing of RD$344,980, 212,118 in bonds. The funds are already included in the 2024 National Budget. The Chamber of Deputies had passed the issuing of the bonds on 29 December 2023.
The senators approved a US$100 million loan from the Banco Internacional de Reconstruccion y Fomento to help youths find jobs. The program will be implemented in the National District, Santo Domingo province, Duarte (San Francisco de Macoris), Loa Altagracia (Higuey, Veron and Punta Cana), Espaillat (Moca), La Romana, La Vega, Puerto Plata, San Cristobal, San Pedro de Macoris, Santiago, Barahona, San Juan and Monseñor Nouel (Bonao).
The Senate also passed the bill that restructures and creates the National Intelligence Agency (DNI) and the National Intelligence System (SNI).
