A release from the US forum and international business organization looks into what it calls a shift in Latin America’s electoral trends with cases of President’s being more popular contrary to the past when the incumbent president’s saw their popularity plummet amid pandemic lockdowns, low growth, inflation and rising concerns about insecurity.
The AS/COA release remarks on the reelection campaigns of Luis Abinader and El Salvador’s Nayib Bukele that polls show are ahead. The AS/COA also remarks on the Mexican presidential campaign where Mexico’s Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador, who cannot run for reelection, but the candidate for his party, Claudia Sheinbaum holds a double-digit poll.
The AS/COA publishes a recent popularity index on Latin American leaders, indicating that Nayib Bukele of El Salvador leads in popularity in his country with 88%. Luis Abinader of the Dominican Republic is ranked second with a 69% popularity.

The percentage for the Dominican Republic was taken from RD Elige—December 2023 poll. The poll was conducted 1 to 9 December 2023 with a sample size of 7,931 cases and a ±2.1 margin of error.
