Participants in a test of whether workers can deliver the same productivity in less hours will be working eight hours less a week (Monday through Thursday) for three months. The Labor Code establishes 44 work hours, and now the pilot program participants will work 36 hours per week.
The six-month pilot program has the backing of the Ministry of Labor and the Pontificia Universidad Catolica Madre y Maestra, which will be assisting with the analytics after the three-month test period ends.
The companies participating in the pilot program are: Claro (telecommunications), IMCA (heavy machinery), EGE Haina (energy), Senasa (health plan) and Sistema Unico de Beneficiarios (government welfare office). The companies’ chosen employees will be monitored starting 1 February 2024.
Around 300 employees will be participating in the shortened work weeks plan over the initial three month period. The next three months will be used to analyze the data collected.
