Wanda García fired as director of the National Aquarium

President Luis Abinader issued Decree No. 20-24 definitely removing Wanda García as general director of the National Aquarium. She had been suspended on 7 November 2023. She was appointed with the Abinader government’s start in August 2020.

From the start, García’s management decisions had been criticized. García is known as a Modern Revolutionary Party activist. She did not have a scientific or academic background when she was appointed.

Jimmy Constantino García Saviñón, the director of the National Maritime Affairs Authority, replaces her. He is appointed the interim director of the National Aquarium in an honorary capacity.
