Free zone exports at record high

Free zone exports reached a high of US$8.06 billion in 2023, reports the Dominican Association of Free Zones (Adozona).

The sustained growth of free zones has been a key driver for economic development in the Dominican Republic in recent years.

According to data provided by Adozona, the sector experienced an impressive 38.4% increase in its accumulated growth from 2020 to 2023. The annual values are: US$5.88 billion (2019); US$5.82 billion (2020); US$7.14 billion (2021); US$7.76 billion (2022), and US$8.06 billion in 2023.

This exceptional growth has been driven by various sectors, including: plastic articles, agro-industrial products, pharmaceutical products and medical equipment, as well as metals and their manufactures.

Luis José Bonilla Bojos, president of Adozona, highlighted: “This success is the result of the dedication and hard work of all the actors involved in the sector. The numbers reflect not only solid economic growth, but also the continued commitment of our free zones to excellence and contribution to the sustainable development of our country. Today, we represent 67% of the Dominican Republic’s exports, and that fills us with pride.”
