The Estrellas Orientales lost to the Licey Tigers on Wednesday, 17 January 2024, but qualified to next week’s Dominican Professional Winter Baseball Championship playoffs. The Licey Tigers beat the Estrellas in the 9th inning of the game, which ended 2-1. Francisco Mejia hit the single that broke the tie at the end of the ninth.
The 18-game round-robin to choose the playoff teams continues on 18 January.
The Gigantes del Cibao were eliminated, but will still play the Licey on 18 January, and the Escogido will play the Estrellas. The Licey needs one more victory to grab the second slot.
Nevertheless, if the Gigantes defeat the Licey and the Escogido defeats the Estrellas, then the Escogido and Licey would be tied for the second slot and an extra game would need to be played.
