President Luis Abinader issued Decree 36-24 that names cardiologist Victor Elias Atallah Lajam, his Minister of Public Health. He replaces Daniel Rivera Reyes who was recently named candidate to senator for Santiago for the ruling Modern Revolutionary Party (PRM).
President Abinader established that Vice President Raquel Peña will again be the Health Cabinet’s president, not the minister. Former Minister Daniel Rivera had presided the Health Cabinet.
Elías Atallah Lajam graduated Magna Cum Laude in Medicine at the Instituto Tecnológico de Santo Domingo (Intec). He has postgraduate degrees in Cardiology, Nuclear Cardiology and Interventional Cardiology from Lenox Hill Hospital (USA).
Attalah Lajam was the founder of the first Nuclear Medicine program at Cedimat.
