The Estrellas Orientales won the first playoff game 5-7 and the second 4-2 against the Tigres del Licey in the Dominican Winter Professional Baseball League Championship.

The teams have battled for the championship on five occasions. The Licey Tigers are the defending champions.

The games are played at the Estrellas Orientales’ Tetelo Vargas ballpark in San Pedro de Macoris and the Quisqueya ballpark in Santo Domingo, the home park for the Licey Tigers.

Fernando Tatis Sr coaches the Estrellas. His son had helped the team make the playoffs, but the San Diego Padres did not extend the permission for Tatis Jr to play local ball.

The Licey Tigers are counting on Emilio Bonifacio, the most valuable player of the round robin, to again do his magic and lead the Tigres to their needed wins.

The playoffs are a series of seven games. The first team that wins four games gets the ticket to compete in the Caribbean Series in Miami, Florida.
