The Ministry of Sports promises not to rent the Olympic Stadium for artistic presentations come this March 2024. The stadium needs to be prepared for the Central American and Caribbean Games in 2026.
For years, the athletics track has been in dire conditions, in large part due to a lack of regular maintenance but mostly because of the constant renting to show producers.
This year, the Ministry of Sports still has booked shows with Juan Luis Guerra on 10 February, Andrea Bocelli on 24 February and Karol G on 15 and 16 March 2024.
Meanwhile, the Dominican Republic’s Olympian Marileidy Paulino has had to move to train in Monte Plata, an hour and a half from the capital city.
Last year on several occasions, the Minister of Sports Radhames Camacho had announced the start of the repair of the athletics track.
