Greater Santo Domingo encompasses the municipalities in the National District and the province of Santo Domingo. The metropolitan area is the largest in the country, and about a third of the national population.
The municipal election is scheduled for 18 February 2024. Each elector gets to vote for a city mayor and a city councilor. Most people by now know who the mayor candidates for their area are. But very few people know who are the councilors that may represent them. People get to vote for a mayor and a councilor of the same or different political party.P
Poll results released by N Digital lists the mayors running for Greater Santo Domingo. These are:
National District: Incumbent mayor Carolina Mejia (PRM) and Domingo Contreras (coalition of PLD and FP)
Santo Domingo East: Dio Astacio (PRM), Luis Alberto (PLD), Julio Romero (FP)
Santo Domingo North: Betty Geronimo (PRM), Carlos Guzman (PLD-FP)
Santo Domingo West: Francisco Peña (PRM) and Aquilino Serrata (PLD-FP)
