Update on the troubles and tribulations of Falcondo

A court in Wales, England would have banned Falconbridge Dominicana ferronickel sales. The CL-2024-000022 order involves Arrow Metals and Trading Ag from Switzerland, as reported in El Caribe.

Last year, Falcondo board member Marcos Camhis, had said the company was looking for new partners.

In September 2022, Falcondo had announced it would invest more than US$150 million to produce nickel to be used to manufacture electric vehicle batteries.

Back in 2022, Ionnis Moutafis, president and general manager, had stated that the company would also invest US$200 million to generate solar energy.

In 2022, Falcondo had more than 2,000 employees and until 2021, ferronickel exports were 27,000 tons, equivalent to US $440.55 million, representing 3.78% of Dominican national exports.

In 2023, president and general manager Ionnis Moustafis resigned and left the country. Falcondo is in a period of financial difficulties.
