
Customs authorities in Puerto Plata were able to halt a major attempt to bring tobacco and alcohol into the Dominican Republic without paying any taxes. The discovery was massive — 6,000 bottles of good whisky and over 20 million cigarettes. The contraband would have evaded over RD$122 million in tariffs. The goods were in a freight container from Palm Beach, Florida, USA.
Meanwhile, in Dajabon, Customs agents also scored a major bust as they uncovered contraband that included cigarettes and more whisky, along with other products that would have entered the country without paying taxes.
