Summit to discuss climate change and energy coming in March 2024

Energy and Mines Minister Antonio Almonte will host his colleagues coming from 14 to 15 March 2024 for the 6th Summit of Ministers of the Alliance for Climate Change and Energy. The event will be held in Punta Cana, led by the Energy and Climate Partnership of the Americas (ECPA). The meeting is to advance on issues on the common energy transition agenda, strengthen cooperation and at the same time review public policies, climate change associated with this issue, Minister Almonte announced during a breakfast with journalists of the Listin Diario.

He said energy ministers of the region are coming. Also participating will be former US Secretary of State John Kerry and the general director of the international atomic energy organization and the Latin American Energy Organization, Andrés Rebolledo.

Almonte says the DR stands out for its growth in renewable energy, both in the contracting processes, amendment of regulations of the incentives law and in the preparations to introduce new technologies. Coming soon are energy transitions to new batteries or energy storage systems to moderate the fluctuations of renewables.

Almonte spoke of the continued flow of foreign investment to the energy sector. He said that tenders for thermal generation, contracts for renewables and greater natural storage capacity are actions being taken to reduce the dependence on fossil fuels in the Dominican Republic.
