Flights suspended as of Friday to Haiti

The Civil Aviation Board in the Dominican Republic urges avoiding flights to Haiti. The Dominican Civil Aviation Board (JAC) last week issued a recommendation to all of the airlines that fly from the Dominican Republic to any airport in Haiti, especially Port-au-Prince, to suspend operations. Flights were suspended on Friday, 1 March 2024. This is due, simply, to the escalating violence in Haiti this past week. This time, thugs shot at an airplane at the Port-au-Prince international airport.

The JAC recommendation is targeted at the La Isabela International Airport in El Higuero, in northern Santo Domingo, from where direct flights could be boarded to the Toussaint L’Overture Airport in the Haitian capital.

The head of the JAC, Jose Marte, had initially said the agency was not contemplating the total closure of all air traffic from the DR to Haiti. Yet on Friday, 1 March 2024, Air Century and Sunrise Airways announced cancellations of their flights to Haiti.
