Arroyo Barril Port to be habilitated for cruise ships

President Luis Abinader was in Samana province for the start of works of Port Samana that will now be built where the Arroyo Barril Port is located. The port area will now be renovated to prepare for cruise ship travelers. An estimated US$68 million will be invested by the private partner in the venture that expects to receive the first cruises in the end of 2025.

Jean Luis Rodriguez, director of the Dominican Port Authority, said that this natural deep water port area will enable the arrival of the largest cruise ships in the world.

The port will be carried out by the same investors that are building and operating Pedernales cruise ship port and the Taino Bay in Puerto Plata City. Mexican investor Mauricio Hamui is the general manager for PDAB Port Investments Sociedad Gestora S.A. that will develop the Port Samaná Arroyo Barril. As reported, the new port will bring opportunities for expansion of microbusinesses. The port venture is also expected to stimulate investors in other ventures in Samana as it brings more tourist visitations to the northeastern coastal city. The increase in jobs and opportunities bodes well for a better quality of life for the residents of Samana province.

The port will have a commercial area, gastronomic offers, recreational and cultural activities, an aquatic park, crafts market, and docking with capacity for two cruise ships at the same time.
