The Embassy of Germany coordinated the opening of a German-sponsored art corner in the Columbus Lighthouse monument in eastern Santo Domingo. The. Columbus Lighthouse has 53 small permanent exhibitions donated by countries around the world.

The monument houses the tomb of Christopher Columbus.

The Embassy fostered the exhibition of works by Dominican artists of German themes. Instead of showcasing art from Germany, the curators of the German presence in the Columbus Lighthouse chose to invite outstanding Dominican artists to recreate German scenes in their style. The artists that provided works for the Permanent Exhibition of Germany are Inés Tolentino, Karim López, Sole Fermín and Enrquillo Amiama.

Attending the opening were Ambassador of Germany Maike Friedrichsen, Ambassador of Spain Antonio Perez Hernandez, Ambassador of the Netherlands Frank Keurhorst, among others. They were hosted by Eliezer Nolasco Jiménez, governor of the Columbus Lighthouse.
