President Abinader visits tall ships; Colombian and Spanish sails in port

President Luis Abinader visited the Spanish tall ship Juan Sebastian Elcano and the Colombian patrol ship OPV ARC Victoria on Tuesday, 5 March 2024. The Navy ships are docked in Sans Souci Port in Santo Domingo as they made stops here coinciding with the celebrations of the 180th Independence Day on 27 February 2024.

The Juan Sebastian Elcano tall ship is open for visits until 9 March. It is scheduled to depart on 13 March. The Victoria patrol ship has capacity for 64 crew and carries on board a Bell helicopter.

President Luis Abinader was accompanied by Minister of Defense Lieutenant General Carlos Luciano Diaz Morfa; Deputy Minister for Naval and Coastal Affairs Vice Admiral Ramón Gustavo Betances Hernández, ARD; and Navy Commander, Vice Admiral Agustín Morillo Rodríguez.

They hosted Colombia’s Admiral Francisco Hernando Cubides Granados, Commander of the Colombian Navy; Vice Admiral Luis Fernando Márquez Veloza, president of the Science and Technology Corporation for the Development of the Naval Industry (Cotecmar) and ambassador Darío Villamizar Herrera.
