
At deadline, on Thursday, 7 March 2024, nine political parties presented their presidential and vice presidential candidates to the Central Electoral Board. Five women were nominated to Vice President, and two women are running for President and nominated men as their running mates.
The announced runners in the 2024 presidential elections on 19 May 2024 will be:
Partido Revolucionario Moderno (PRM): Luis Abinader + incumbent Vice President Raquel Peña.
Partido de la Liberación Dominicana (PLD): Abel Martínez + Zoraima Cuello. Zoraima Cuello served as Deputy Ministry in charge of governmental coordination at the Ministry of the Presidency from August 2012 to May 2020 during the Danilo Medina presidency. She kept a low profile.
Fuerza del Pueblo (FP): former President Leonel Fernández + Ingrid Mendoza. Ingrid Mendoza is the widow of lawyer Reynaldo Pared Perez, who served as president of the Senate from 2006 to 2014 and 2016 to 2020. She was an active lawyer in the private sector, working mostly for the Reid Group. She is also said to have assisted her husband.
Partido Revolucionario Dominicano (PRD): former Minister of Foreign Relations Miguel Vargas Maldonado + lawyer Joel Díaz Ureña.
Frente Amplio (FA): educator María Teresa Cabrera + Marcha Verde social activist, journalist Jesus Diaz.
Generación de Servidores (GENS): pastor Carlos Peña + Nikauly de la Mota, a communicator who served as minister counsellor at the Dominican Embassy in Mexico named in 2014.
Opción Democrática (OD): politician and communicator Virginia Antares + architect and social activist Ico Abreu.
Partido Esperanza Democrática (PED): Roque Espaillat + outspoken medical doctor Ernesto Fadul.
Patria para todos (PPT): cardiologist and writer Fulgencio Severino + Francisca Peguero. Peguero is a former president of the National Association of Nurses (Asonaen).
In the 2024 presidential and congressional election, 7,281,763 Dominicans are eligible to vote in the Dominican Republic and 863,785 are eligible to vote abroad.
On Thursday, at deadline, the political parties also registered their candidacies for senators and deputies.
The JCE now has time to study the candidacies and present the formal list this March.
