“Katmandu Park Punta Cana is closed effective immediately. The commercial shops and restaurant will remain operative. As we consider future use of the property, we extend our gratitude to all our guests who’ve enjoyed the park this past year,” the company website reports.
Market Watch reports that company owner Falcon’s Beyond Global said it closed the park due to mounting losses at the park. The company, which was owned and operated through a joint venture with Meliá Hotels International, said the park drew fewer visitors than management expected.
The park operated at the grounds of the closed Palma Real Mall in the mid-section of Punta Cana.
As reported, entrance fees were too expensive for the market and the competition of other entertainment parks inside all-inclusive resorts and out was too strong.
There is also a Katmandu Park in operation in Mallorca, Spain.
