Tourism Minister David Collado met with airline executives from Germany and Switzerland for talks to guarantee direct flights between Germany and the Dominican Republic, as part of the strategies to strengthen Dominican tourism in these markets. The meetings took place during the 2024 ITB Berlin trade show in Berlin, Germany.
Condor will operate nine weekly flights from Frankfurt to Punta Cana, Santo Domingo and Puerto Plata international airports. Discover Airlines, the new leisure airline of the Lufthansa Group, will operate five weekly flights from Frankfurt to Punta Cana.
From Switzerland, Edelweiss Air will operate three weekly flights to Puerto Plata and Punta Cana from Zurich.
In 2023 the Dominican Republic received 146,242 visitors from Germany, making it the fourth largest tourist source for the country. Switzerland is ranked seventh as a source market in Europe, with 42,514 passengers to the DR.
