Despite announcements of the forming of a presidential transition council in Haiti, to tell from widespread evacuation efforts, the perception seems that matters will continue to get worse in Haiti.

The situation right now is that with the Port-au-Prince International Airport closed to regular traffic, those with money can still purchase helicopter lift and charter flights to leave the country.

Over the weekend, the Dominican government helped evacuate 27 Dominicans from Haiti. Three Dominican Air Force helicopters transported the Dominicans to the Air Force helicopter landing field in Jimaní.

The media announced a charter flight had departed from the Cap Haitien and landed an a Miami, Florida airport.

Meanwhile, as the exodus of those who can leave continues, Royal Caribbean announced the temporary interruption of its cruises to the northern port of Labadee.

In other developments, the US-Caricom nine-member presidential transition council has yet to be named. The US Congress is delaying on the approval of new funds for humanitarian use and to fund the UN-backed peacekeeping mission.

The United States government named a new ambassador to Haiti, Dennis B Hankins. Meanwhile, former US special envoy to Haiti Dennis Foote recently spoke with NPR and criticized that there were no Haitians participating in the Caricom summit in Kingston, Jamaica that decided on the nine-member presidential transition council.

After Ariel Henry was impeded to return to Haiti and is now in Puerto Rico, Haiti is again being covered by the international press.
