The Ministry for Public Administration has announced that all government employees will get an extended holiday this Easter Week. Government will work until noon on Wednesday, 27 March. This is a first because in the past, government had worked through the Thursday of Easter Week. Most private companies not working in the tourism business will also give employees off as of Thursday. Easter Friday is a national holiday. Those with plans to go shopping or to a restaurant in cities, should call before to ensure the business is open.
The disposition of the Ministry of Public Administration means that if a person has an errand to run that requires any government intervention, such as tax filings, birth certificates, license renewals, business permits, or contract registrations, these should be carried out before noon on Wednesday.
Minister Dario Castillo Lugo noted that the head of each government agency could establish special hours for important services, but that this measure seeks to allow many government employees to travel to distant provinces to visit family and friends. He also urged everyone to follow the instructions of the many volunteers serving the Civil Defense and the Center for Emergency Operations, government entities that will be working to provide a safe holiday for everyone.
