President Luis Abinader appointed a high-level committee to ensure smooth sailing for the upcoming FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup. This is the first time a global event of its kind is held in the Dominican Republic
The event is scheduled to take place in venues in Santo Domingo and Santiago from 16 October to 3 November 2024. The hosting of the event in the Dominican Republic is a recognition to the strengths of the country as a sports tourism destination and its emerging soccer developments.
Sixteen national teams will compete, coming from all around the world.
Ana Bonetti, will be the chair of the Organizing Committee and businessman Manuel Estrella, the coordinator. Other members are Minister of Housing Carlos Bonilla, Tourism Minister David Collado, Sports Minister Francisco Camacho, president of the Dominican Soccer Federation José Deschamps, businessman Manuel Corripio, retired president of the Dominican Constitutional Court Milton L. Ray Guevara and Vice President Raquel Peña.
The Dominican Republic Women’s Soccer World Cup 2024 will be the eighth edition of the tournament organized by FIFA.
The FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup is a biennial international women’s association football tournament for female players under the age of 17. It is organized by the Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) since 2008. The current champions are Spain, that won its second title at the 2022 edition in India.
The Under 17 World Cup plays a fundamental role in the future of sport as it is the platform for the development of youth talent.
The event seeks to inspire young talents, the growth of women’s football and the development of the sports structure and promotion of the sport in the world.
National teams that compete are organized in the confederations from Asia (AFC), Africa (CAF), North, Central America and the Caribbean (CONCACAF), South America (CONMEBZOL), Oceania (OFC) and Europe (UEFA).
The Dominican Republic was selected as host for the 2024 edition on 23 June 2023.
