Ceara-Hatton urged to comply with the law and protect Bani Dunes

Deputy Ana Mercedes Rodríguez (PLD-Peravia) called for more support for the protection and preservation of the natural monument Las Dunas de las Calderas in southcentral Peravia province.

During the Wednesday, 24 April 2024 session, Rodriguez said: “It is a shame what happens when unscrupulous people try to silence the authorities, in their intention to take over the natural reserve.”

She called on Environment Minister Miguel Ceara Hatton to explain to the National Congress the situation and how he is going to act to protect and preserve the iconic sand dune in Peravia province.

“We hope that the law, the resolutions and the decrees that protect Las Dunas will be applied,” she urged.

“If you do not have the ability to manage your job, you have to resign,” exclaimed the Deputy Mercedes Rodriguez.

Recently, Minister Ceara Hatton held a round table to discuss more active measures to counter environmental violations.

In the meeting led by Ceara Hatton, topics of special relevance to strengthen the prosecution of violations of Environment Law 64-00 and Protected Areas Law 202-04 were addressed.

The participants in the meeting expressed their interest in greater coordination of actions to ensure that the judges, ultimately responsible for the sanctions, can impose more severe penalties on the unscrupulous that affect the environmental heritage of the generations of Dominicans of the present and of the future.
