
The Dominican national volleyball team, Reinas del Caribe, won games against Serbia and South Korea, and lost to Canada and the USA in the first round of the 16-team Nations League Volleyball Tournament. The tournament is the most important annual tournament held globally.
The DR took the reigning world champion Serbia 3-1 (25-18, 25-17, 21-25 and 25-20) in their opening pool clash. Norceca reports this was the second time the DR had defeated Serbia. The DR also
defeated South Korea 25-13, 25-19 and 25-20. These wins and losses placed the DR in 10th place of the 16 teams.
The DR lost first round games to Canada 25-20, 25-21 and 25-22 and to the United States — 25-23, 25-20, 25-18.
The Volleyball Nations League is a preparatory tournament for the Paris Olympic Games. In week two matches will take place in Macau, China, from 28 May to 2 June when the DR in Macau, China will match China, Italy, Brazil, Japan, Netherlands, Thailand, France and the DR.
In week three, from 11 June to 16 June, the DR. will travel to Hong Kong, China to match China, Turkey, Germany, Brazil, Thailand, Poland and Bulgaria.
The finals of the tournament will be in Bangkok, Thailand from 20 to 23 June 2024.
The DR is already qualified for the Olympic Games with France, Serbia, Turkey, Brazil, the USA playing in Brazil.
