President Luis Abinader met with PLD presidential candidate Abel Martinez soon after the declaration of the presidential win. On Thursday evening, 23 May 2024 Abel Martinez welcomed the visit of Abinader at his home. The President had said he seeks to create consensus for the passing of several actions for the collective good.
In a press release, the former Santiago Mayor and several times president of the Chamber of Deputies Abel Martinez said he personally told President Abinader that the country can count on him to back, from the PLD, a political platform for the exchange of ideas to promote the positive actions the country needs.
President Abinader arrived to Martinez’s home at 9:15pm and was received by Martinez and his wife Nahiony Reyes. He left around 10:50pm.
President Abinader has scheduled to meet with former President Leonel Fernandez, the first runner up of the presidential election. That meeting is scheduled for 2 June 2024. The meeting had to be postponed because Fernandez was affected by a virus.
