In an unusual action, the Migration Agency is sending to justice three motorcyclists from Los Pilones in southcentral province of Azua accused of transporting undocumented Haitian migrants. The motorists transported the undocumented migrants through the migration checkpoints on the main highway. The migrants had traveled on a bus, used the motorist transport to cross the checkpoint, and then would have boarded again the bus to reach their destination in the Dominican Republic.
Christian José de los Santos, Edwin Castillo and Ángel Ariel Soto Lara were arrested when caught in the act.
As reported in Diario Libre, the “motoconchistas” will be charged for violating Migration Law 284-04 and People Trafficking Law 137-03 in an Azua court.
Diario Libre says that the motorcyclists are part of a network that regularly transports undocumented foreigners through the mountains and Ocoa River areas.
