Dominican Republic public teachers’ union opposes hiring contest, seeks delay

The Dominican Public School Teachers Association (ADP) is throwing a wrench into the Ministry of Education’s plans to hire new teachers for public schools. In a statement, the ADP National Executive Committee and its president, Eduardo Hidalgo, announced the ADP’s refusal to participate in the ongoing Concurso de Oposicion Docente, a competition designed to select qualified educators. The ADP is calling for a postponement of the hiring process.

The new teachers would fill vacancies for the 2024-25 school year, which begins in August.

Despite the ADP’s objections, the Ministry of Education maintains it will proceed with the competition as planned. The Ministry asserts that the ADP has had ample time to review the contest guidelines, which were provided two months in advance and incorporated the union’s previous feedback.
