Two of the major players in the private energy sector, Energia Natural Dominicana (Enadom) and AES Dominicana announced the successful connection of their natural gas storage facilities whereby the new 120,000m3 is united with the existing facilities of AES Dominicana. The major benefit of all of this is that now, maintenance work can be carried out without affecting the supply of LNG (or Liquid Natural Gas).
This new storage capacity will permit the companies to supply as much as 3000 megawatts to the national grid. According to spokesperson for the companies, Enadom has invested US$400 million so far in its infrastructure over the past five years.
The Dominican Republic imports some 80 TBTU of LNG per year. (Trillion British Thermal Units).
