The Ministry of Foreign Relations announced on Wednesday, 5 June 2024 that the Dominican Republic is ready to start of the implementation of the Agreement for the Promotion and Protection of Investments. The program follows the signing of an agreement with the Fund for International Development (FIDA) and the Dominican Republic in May 2022. The agreement calls for stimulating the flow of capital to the Dominican Republic from OPEC member states, promoting job creation and training of capacities in the DR.
The agreement encompasses funds for financing public and private projects, guaranteeing environmental and respect for human rights and international norms compliance.
In the past, the OPEC Fund has contributed to the Electricity Distribution Rehabilitation and Loss Reduction Program with different phases since 2018.
