The Dominican Navy reported on Wednesday, 12 June 2024 the rescuing of two US citizens who were stranded on a sailboat that was drifting approximately 40 nautical miles northeast of Samaná, in the Atlantic Ocean, as reported in Diario Libre.
The foreigners, who were rescued on Tuesday, 11 June 2024 in perfect health, were on board the vessel “Nauti Ridge”, a sailboat 12 meters (40 feet) long and 2.5 meters (8 feet) wide.
According to a press release from the Navy, the sailboat had set sail from the United States Virgin Islands for recreational purposes, but during the journey experienced problems with its propulsion system.
Upon receiving a request for assistance from the United States Coast Guard Liaison, the Dominican Navy’s Maritime Operations Center (COM) immediately dispatched the Dominican Coast Guard cutter GC-104 Aldebarán to the rescue. The Aldebarán crew swiftly located the sailboat and safely rescued the two American citizens. The sailboat was then towed to the Samaná dock without any further incident.
