Many remember news commentator Amelia Deschamps for her impactful questioning of guests as co-host of the El Dia program with veteran journalist Huchi Lora. When she was at the pinnacle of her popularity, she would announce she would leave to carry out masters studies in her field. She studied documentary production at the New York Film Academy and a masters in communications in Spain. She is now back after a 25 year stint abroad.
She is inviting to see her documentary on the hardships of those who mine larimar, the Dominican blue jewel. The showings are part of the Dominican film festival at Arts Cinema at Novocentro at 6pm on 13 June 2024.
She announces she will be back regularly in Dominican media and is launching the program “Se Vale Preguntar” on TV. The seasonal program will touch on current themes “in a profound and engaging way.”
She says there is a need for quality content. “Journalists must search for reliable sources, investigate, and use the data compiled. It is our aim to adapt to the new times and new forms of communication and communicate to the public in a different way,” she said in an interview in El Nuevo Diario.
Her program will be released on 18 June on YouTube, Spotify and Apple Podcasts.
She says there will be episodes filmed in a studio, but also others outdoors for an immersive and enriching experience for her audiences.
“It’s a project that seems like a lot to me: it’s for people who want to know, know, explore and talk about current issues without fear or censorship.
The program is a strategic alliance between Amelia Deschamps and Pitahaya Media Network. The programs will be 45 minutes long.
