Arajet receives its 10th Aircraft; Names it Los Haitises

Arajet, the rapidly expanding low-cost airline, has marked a significant milestone with the arrival of its 10th aircraft in the new airplane design. This latest addition to their fleet, a Boeing 737 Max 8, bears the special name “Los Haitises,” a tribute to the stunning karst-landscaped national park in the provinces of Hato Mayor, Monte Plata and Samaná. The aircraft’s arrival was celebrated at a special ceremony attended by Dominican Vice President Raquel Peña, Arajet CEO Victor Pacheco Mendez, and Boeing Vice President for Latin America and the Caribbean, Landom Loomis.

Vice President Peña lauded Arajet as a platform that showcases the Dominican Republic’s tourism offerings and exemplifies the government’s support for private initiatives. She emphasized that the airline’s continued fleet expansion reflects the confidence of both domestic and foreign investors in the country’s immense potential.

“We have no limits for the development of our nation,” Vice President Peña declared.

Arajet’s impressive growth trajectory is evident in its remarkable achievement of transporting over one million passengers in just a year and a half. This success has contributed to a surge in tourist arrivals to the Dominican Republic, as well as an increase in transit passengers utilizing Arajet to connect between destinations.

CEO Pacheco proudly highlighted Arajet’s commitment to social responsibility, evident in their practice of naming their aircraft after protected areas in the Dominican Republic. He says the initiative aims to raise awareness about the importance of environmental preservation and stewardship.

The new Boeing 737 MAX 8 features a 185-seat configuration and arrived directly from Boeing’s manufacturing facility in Seattle, USA. It joins the airline’s fleet that includes the aircraft named for other projected areas — Pico Duarte, Valle Nuevo, Jaragua, Ojos Indígena, Los Tres Ojos, Isla Saona, Lago Enriquillo, Laguna Redonda, and Bahía de las Águilas.

Arajet flies to 23 destinations in 16 countries in the Americas, including Canada and Mexico in North America. The airline anticipates expanding its reach to the United States in 2024, pending the finalization of an open skies agreement between the Dominican Republic and the United States.
