A raging fire engulfed three warehouses in the Parque Industrial Sued industrial park at the height of Km 11 on the Autopista Duarte highway last night through the early morning. The fire was said to have broken out at around 9pm on Monday, 24 June 2024. No injuries were reported but there are extensive material losses. Preliminary reports indicate the affected computerized warehouses stored threads.
Firefighters from Santo Domingo West, Santo Domingo North and the National District battled the blaze for hours to contain the fire and avoid it spreading to other warehouses also containing highly flammable materials.
The industrial park is home to 21 industrial plants and warehouses. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
The fire worsened the already difficult flow of traffic on Autopista Duarte highway.
