Minister of Agriculture visits China and Vietnam

Agriculture Minister Limber Cruz is on an international cooperation tour in Vietnam (22-29 June 2024) continuing on to China. The Presidency reports that in Vietnam, Cruz and the team from the Ministry of Agriculture visited the provinces of Binh Doung, Long An, Tieng Giang, and the city of My Tho and Hanoi. The delegation observed scientific and technological advancements in dragon fruit (pitahaya) production, horticulture models, and visited a veterinary supplies plant and an agro-industrial machinery factory. In Hanoi, the minister signed a memorandum of cooperation with the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development and conducted technical visits to the Departments of Animal Health, a meat processing plant, and the Vietnam Livestock Association.

The objective of the trip was to assimilate the technological advancements achieved by Vietnam, aiming to position the Dominican Republic at the forefront of genetic improvement and agricultural production. This initiative seeks to boost Dominican agriculture with state-of-the-art productivity levels, ensuring the country’s food security and sovereignty.

The visit concluded with a meeting with Vietnam’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Bui Thanh Son. Additionally, meetings were scheduled with the head of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the National Assembly, Vu Hai Ha.

Accompanying Minister Limber Cruz in Vietnam was Dominican Ambassador to Vietnam, Jaime Francisco Rodríguez, Deputy Minister of Technological Development in Agriculture, Rafael Ortíz Quezada, several Dominican embassy aides, and a Vietnamese delegation.

Following the Vietnam visit, Minister Limber Cruz and the Dominican delegation traveled to the People’s Republic of China as special guests to engage in an eight-day agenda focused on bilateral cooperation with Chinese authorities.
