
President Luis Abinader arrived in Panama around 4:45pm on Sunday, 30 June 2024 to attend the inauguration of Jose Raul Mulino Quintero as President of Panama at noon on Monday, 1 July in Panama City. President Abinader traveled with First Lady Raquel Arbaje and Minister of Foreign Relations Roberto Alvarez and staff. He is scheduled to hold a bilateral meeting on Monday, 1 July 2024 with the new President of Panama. Panama, the Dominican Republic, and Costa Rica make up the regional alliance – Alliance for Development in Democracy.
On Sunday evening President Abinader attended a dinner offered by the outgoing President Laurentino Cortizo Cohen to honor the visiting heads of government and state representatives in Panama for the inauguration.
Panama has said that other heads of state were attending the inaugural, including the presidents of Colombia, El Salvador, Ecuador, Costa Rica, Honduras and Paraguay and the prime ministers of Belize and Aruba. King Felipe II of Spain would also be in attendance.
President Luis Abinader is scheduled to return on Monday evening to the Dominican Republic. Due to his travels, the Presidency announced the Monday weekly press conference would not be held on that day.
